Western looking to young wrestlers to replace ‘anchor’

Western Wrestling — Winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) championship and having an All-American wrestler is good — but not good enough. Especially when the goal is to have multiple All-American wrestlers and a top-10 team finish at nationals.

Last season, the Western Colorado University wrestling team finished with a 14-4 overall dual record and won the RMAC — in their final match against rival Colorado Mesa University. From the outside, all indications are that 2018-19 was a season marked by success.

Yet, for Western wrestlers and head coach Charlie Pipher, last year’s results fell short of the team’s expectations.
