Mildred “Millie” Mae Swenson was born Aug. 8, 1937 to Wesley and Bertha Rokusek in Mott, N.D. She was one of three children and their only daughter. Farm life was not for her and she left as soon as she possibly could. While attending school in Dickenson, N.D., to earn a teaching certificate, she met the love of her life, Ronald F. Swenson and they were married in 1957.
Millie and Ron’s life was full of adventure and passion. They were blessed with three boys; Jefferson (Alma), Jason (Paula) and Roy (Karen) and traveled the country and the world pursuing Ron’s engineering career in the oil and gas industry. Golf and church enabled them to make lifelong friends along their adventures.
Millie succumbed to a long and debilitating battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Aug. 9, 2020 in Alamogordo, N.M. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Milton and Roger, her husband and two of her sons, Jason, and Roy. She is survived by her oldest son, Jeff, and his wife Alma. She is also survived by daughter-in-laws Paula and Karen and three grandchildren, Joshua (Jason), Jessica (Jeff) and Sierra (Roy). Additionally, she is survived by a number of step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to commend and thank the multitudes of caregivers that cared for and loved Millie during her final years. Alzheimer’s steals loved ones bit by bit, day by day and year by year. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Millie’s honor. Millie will be laid to rest with her beloved Ron at the Neuburg Cemetery near Mott, N.D., at a later date.
