Lorna Robalyn Kaasen (Dotts), amazing mother, wife and friend known for her caring, creative and outgoing personality, left us to be with the Lord on Jan. 28. Born in Del Norte, Colo., on Nov. 4, 1947, Lorna spent most of her early childhood and throughout high school around the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado with most of her summers being spent at her grandfather's guest ranch in Creede.
In May 1971 Lorna gave birth to her first daughter Darius Chantalee Kaasen in Alamosa, Colo. Lorna, her mother Lora Kaasen and sister Karen Kaasen helped raise Darius along with her eldest sister Sally's four children after a short battle with cancer.
In 1974 Lorna met Charles Ray Dotts of Gunnison, Colo., at a disco in downtown Denver after she had "accidentally" locked her keys in her car. The two ended up marrying in 1976 in Evergreen, Colo., in front of family and friends and would end up spending the next 43 years together.
The couple had their first child together, Chazra Jillian Dotts, in Aurora, Colo., in 1981. The couple resided in the Denver metro area until 1983 until the couple moved to Charles' hometown of Gunnison. Lorna and Chuck continued life in the Gunnison Valley giving birth to their third daughter Shar-Dae Nouveau Dotts in 1986.
Lorna worked as a secretary for the county commissioners and the Gunnison school board. Lorna also owned several successful local businesses that honed in on her creative talents with her skincare line and love of all things arts and crafts. She will be remembered by most as the lotion and skincare lady.
In 2014 Lorna retired and relocated with her husband Chuck to the town of Orchard City, Colo. In the last few years as her life slowed down Lorna was always to be found keeping her hands and mind busy with reading her Kindle, listening to her books on tape, and spending time outside on the swing with her world, her grandson LJ.
Lorna's remains and celebration of life will be on a warm summer or fall day at Land's End road on Grand Mesa at her request before her passing. She is very much missed by family and friends, and she will be forever loved!
