GUEST COMMENTARY

While reading last week’s article in the Gunnison Country Times regarding Golden Eagle Trash Service’s minor-impact change appeal, my first thought was, “Wow, Gun Club road must have really changed in the past few years.” Then my curiosity got the best of me, and I started doing a little research on the properties and uses on and around County Road 18. (Yep, I even drove out there and did my own site visit.)

I was also intrigued by reference to “nonconforming use.” In my 12-year tenure as a County Commissioner, we never had a discussion on discounting any property use, no matter when it was established. I am weighing in on this not because I have a dog in this fight, but because it feels like the county attorney is manipulating the Land Use Resolution (LUR) process to give the Board of County Commissioners cover to overturn a valid approval of a landuse change by the Planning Commission.
