The most worthy proposals for a tax increase tend to generate a strong coalition of community leaders stepping forward to educate the public about the need and championing the identified solution. We have not seen as much in the pitch for a 1.5 mill property tax levy to fund aff ordable housing.

The need for housing is inarguably present and growing by the day, but in recent months elected leaders haven’t been all that vocal in selling the public on Issue 6A. Also, the campaign has been quiet, and not until this week in a letter to the editor did the mayors of the county’s three major municipalities chime in supporting the measure.
