In recent winters, options for riders of “fat” bikes at the south end of the Gunnison Valley were few. Sure, a few die-hard fat bikers groomed a small number of trails, but a dedicated winter singletrack system did not exist.

That all changed in the spring of 2017, when singletrack advocacy group Gunnison Trails received approval from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to groom many of the trails north of Powerline Road at Hartman Rocks Recreation Area.

Subsequently, Gunnison Trails purchased a special track sled to conduct the grooming. However, a dry winter of 2017-18 prevented grooming from taking place.
