Gov. Jared Polis in the last hour has announced a statewide mask mandate which will take effect at midnight tonight and last for at least 30 days. "The party has to end," said Polis. The goal is that a statewide order will create greater compliance with a clarity of message, said the governor.
The executive order issued today will require anyone over the age of 10 to wear face coverings while in public indoor places. "We are trying to act proactively to avoid a crisis," said Polis. "We are not at crisis levels or a hot spot like Texas, Arizona or parts of California."
The governor said violators may be subject to penalties. "Bipartisan leadership in our state wants you to take this seriously," added Polis. The order comes as health officials note a 40 percent rise in COVID-19 cases in the last week, and a four week trend of increasing numbers.
