Proponent withdraws application, pursues plans elsewhere

A project at Waunita Hot Springs Ranch that would have utilized the heat- and power-generating potential of the area’s geothermal resource has gone cold.

Project proponent Charles Barr of San Francisco, Calif., on Sept. 16 withdrew his application for a 161,000-square-foot geothermally powered, hydroponic greenhouse to grow natural and organic vegetables.

Barr’s company, Waunita Ranch LLC, was under contract to purchase the ranch from the Pringle family, but the sale is no longer in the works. Barr indicated that he’s instead pursuing a natural gas-heated greenhouse in another, unspecified Colorado county.
