A new Gunnison City Council was seated this week. However, at least one thing won’t change. Councilors elected Jim Gelwicks to continue serving as mayor for the next two years.
City Council elects both the positions of mayor and mayor pro-tem at its first meeting following a regular city election. The term for each office expires at the next regular city election.
On Tuesday, after the new members were officially seated, council voted unanimously by written ballot in favor of Gelwicks continuing to serve as mayor. Jim Miles, who previously served as mayor pro-tem, will continue to serve in that role as well.
