GHS Boys Baseball — The Gunnison High School (GHS) baseball team got off to a hot start in their “home” tournament on Friday and Saturday — held in Olathe and Montrose as a result of soggy conditions in Gunnison. The Cowboys defeated Meeker and Pagosa Springs 12-7 and 4-0, respectively, before suffering a 21-2 loss to Montrose High School.
“It felt amazing to win two out of our three games, and to get second place at our first-ever Cowboy baseball tournament felt amazing too,” said Jayden Poole. “Our team is so young and talented, that at some points of the weekend I felt like we were dangerous and unstoppable. I can’t wait to see what this team has in store entering into league play.”
On Friday, Meeker scored off a double to left field in the top of the first inning. The Cowboys erased the lead in the bottom of the first. Geoff McDougal singled and Poole was walked, setting up GHS to take the lead later in the inning.
