Imagine a stop along Elk Avenue for a burrito from Teocalli Tamale when, lo and behold, the Crested Butte mainstay has acquired a new neighbor in the form of an Overland Sheepskin Co. outlet, Ralph Lauren store or — God forbid — McDonald’s restaurant.

Luckily, such a dreadful outcome will not materialize at any point in the near future.

Tonight, town leaders in Crested Butte will host the fi rst of many meetings seeking public feedback after enacting a sixmonth moratorium early last month that bans new “formula” restaurants and retail shops — in other words, franchises.
