When I was younger, I looked forward to April Fool’s Day — it was a time to be creative and have a few laughs. However, I always wanted the joke to be at someone else’s expense.
I am embarrassed to recall one time when the joke definitely was on me. It was in the mid ‘90s, Jim and I were living in Chicago and had purchased property here in Gunnison County. We subscribed to the Gunnison Country Times and the Crested Butte News and received them by snail mail several days after publication.
Therefore, I was not thinking about April Fool’s Day when I started reading the most recent edition of the News. Headline: “Company buys out every business on Elk Avenue!”
