GHS Girls Golf — For the second year in a row, the Gunnison High School (GHS) girls golf team will send four players to state. However, this year the state contingent is comprised of all four of the team’s seniors.
Tuesday proved to be a successful outing for the Cowboys in the Region 4 3A championship at Dos Rios golf course.
In order to qualify for state, an individual golfer must finish in the top 21 in her region. As a whole, the Cowboys finished fifth out of nine teams, shooting 297.
Taylor Alton led the way by shooting a 96 on the day — coming in 11th place and qualifying for state for the third time.
“It’s an amazing feeling to qualify for state,” said Alton. “But especially with the whole team. We have all worked so hard and I am glad that it has paid off for everyone this week.”
Alton was followed closely behind by Randi Vincent, who shot a personal best of 97, earning 12th place.
Elise Barnes and Esperanza Antonarez also qualified for state, finishing in 17th and 20th place, respectively, shooting a 104 and 112 on the day.
“The four seniors will have such a good time together at our last high school tournament,” said Alton.
GHS will have a break before getting back on the course. State will start on Monday, May 20 and come to a conclusion on Tuesday in Eagle at the Eagle Ranch Golf Course.
