Domenick Maimone passed away May 13 at the age of 93 in Sun City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Debra Sue. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Janet and seven children: Donna Turner of Arizona, Theresa DeGoede of Arizona, Steve Maimone of Oregon, Linda Heeley of Oregon, Mike Maimone of North Carolina, Danny Maimone of California and Christopher Maimone of California.

Born in East Los Angeles on Oct. 25, 1925, he joined the Army Air Force near the end of WWII, and was a member of American Legion Post 54 here in Gunnison.

Dom and Janet moved to Gunnison in 1992, and were one of the first hardy couples to live in Gold Basin High Country Ranch, when snowmobiling home in the winter was just part of the commute.

Domenick had a passion for breeding and showing Birman cats, and for many years they traveled the cat show circuit. He loved jazz, classical music and great food. He was also proud of his Sicilian ancestry, quick with a smile and good humour.

Dom was a faithful parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church, rarely would he miss Saturday evening Mass, even in bad weather.

Always happy to be outdoors, Dom was truly in his element when out surveying, whether in town or at a remote mining claim in the mountains. May he always be, “out in the field.”

There will be a Mass at St. Peter's Catholic Church Saturday, June 8 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the Parish Hall at 7:30 p.m.
