The dream season came to an end last Saturday afternoon for the Gunnison High School (GHS) boys basketball team. It was an emotional moment, with hardly a dry eye left in the gymnasium after the final buzzer sounded and the sting and finality of a hard-fought loss to Sterling settled in.

One of the amazing and beautiful characteristics of high school athletics is the vulnerability it exposes to players, coaches, managers and fans. When you pour your heart out in the pursuit of excellence, you risk leaving your shortcomings right there on the gym floor, for all the world to see.

That’s what makes you stronger, as a person, a team and a community.
