Under a new grant from Wildfire Planning International, Gunnison County will receive numerous services to plan for and mitigate potentially catastrophic wildfires as seen in other parts of Colorado this past summer.
As part of the Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire (CPAW) program, the county will receive technical assistance such as land-use planning recommendations, risk assessment, research and capacity-building activities. The grant was awarded to the county in November, and a memorandum of agreement was signed by County Commissioners last week.
There is no monetary value associated with the grant, but Community and Economic Development Director Cathie Pagano acknowledged the value of the package.
