Connie Elze, age 84, of Gunnison, Colo., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16 in Gunnison. Connie was born Aug. 9, 1935 in St. Louis, Mo., to Ida Caroline Randle and Edwin Richard Randle.
Connie was raised in Montrose, Colo. After graduating from Montrose County High School in 1953, she attended Western State College.
While attending Western in Gunnison she met Richard John Elze, aka Buddy Elze. They were married March 12, 1955 and their love was strong for the rest of her life for 64 years. Together they raised two children, Mike Elze and Debbie DeVorss.
Buddy and Connie ranched in the Ohio Creek Valley for their entire ranching livelihood. Connie was a professional secretary and bookkeeper in the real estate industry the majority of her working career. She worked in real estate for Mil Davis, Rick Marquardt, MLS, Monarch Realty, and Matt Robbins.
Connie was predeceased by her mother Ida C. Randle and her father Edwin Richard Randle.
She is survived by her sisters Carolyn Bivens and Nancy Haskill; her husband Buddy Elze; her daughter Debbie DeVorss and her son Mike Elze; and their spouses Ron and Heather; five grandchildren, Marcus DeVorss, Steven DeVorss, Anne Elze, Marti Elze, and Ben Elze; and one greatgrandson, Jackson DeVorss.
Connie enjoyed being a grandma and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events. She also enjoyed photography, reading, flowers, their dogs and cats. She was a member of the Gunnison County Cowbells and Gunnison Stockgrowers.
Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at the Fred Field Western Heritage Center. Memorial donations may be made to the Gunnison County 4-H Foundation.
