Although we have recently enjoyed our (sometimes) annual, balmy February thaw, more snow is predicted. More on that later. Some people have been asking if this is a particularly cold winter, and, of course, as most veterans of Gunnison winters know, the answer is no.
Here are some figures supplied by Alantha of the official Gunnison County Electric Association (GCEA) weather station west of town. The average high (Tmax) for January 2019 was 23 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average low (Tmin) was 10 below zero, giving an average temperature of 6.5 degrees. That might seem severe to outsiders (except of course, those from the upper Midwest this year), but really, those figures are only about 2 degrees below long-term averages.
