Christina Lee Gonzales-Emerson, 57, of Gunnison, passed away Nov 11. while vacationing in San Diego, Calif. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Dec. 8 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 400 W. Georgia Ave., Gunnison. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the Elks Lodge #1623, 123 Main St., Gunnison. A burial ceremony will be held in the summer of 2019. Christina was born on May 12, 1961 in San Diego, Calif. She graduated from Sweetwater High school in National City, Calif. She moved to Gunnison in 1995 to be closer to family and stayed for love and living the Gunnison lifestyle. Christina was married to David Emerson. They were married for 22 years. She worked as a Sheriff’s Deputy for the Gunnison County Sheriff’s department for eight years. She was President of the Lady Elk’s, an organization which she cherished for 12 years. Christina is survived by her husband David Emerson; son Mariano Capacillo and daughter-in-law Jhoyet Capacillo, daughter Fatima Huyler and son-in-law David Huyler and daughter Heather Smith; grandchildren MJ Capacillo, Miles Capacillo, Aliesha Huyler, Jason Huyler, Jillyan Cleary, Kaden Smith, Michael Howerton, and Easton Howerton; and brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Lady Elks of Gunnison.
