Seventh annual race slated for Sunday

Asphalt is clear of ice and rivers are raging, but snow is still holding in the high country. That means it’s time to pick up the poles and dust off those pedals and paddles. The seventh annual Crested Butte Pole Pedal Paddle (CB3P) is set to commence this coming Sunday, April 28.

Last year, CB3P saw its best turnout ever, with 105 participants skiing, biking and paddling their way from Mt. Crested Butte to Gunnison. By way of comparison, the event’s inaugural year saw just 51 participants, and the lowest turnout to date was 32. However, that was due in large part to blowing snow during the race.

With the success the CB3P has seen in recent years, organizer Tiffanie Simpson has a goal of reaching 120 participants this year — with a cutoff set at 140 racers.
