COMMENTARY

The dust is beginning to settle on the 119th edition of Cattlemen’s Days, Gunnison’s annual 10-day celebration of a way of life. It was another wonderful demonstration of what this community is all about, with more story lines than could fill the Sunday New York Times, let alone your hometown Times.

Throughout this week’s edition you’ll find loads of Cattlemen’s-related coverage. Here are just a few of the other highlights.

One-hundred and sixty-five local youngsters exhibited 4-H projects of all types, ranging from livestock raising to pet training to rocket building and cake decorating. Our tradition of instilling valuable lessons in tomorrow’s leaders — of pledging one’s “head” to clearer thinking, “heart” to greater loyalty, “hands” to larger service and “health” to better living — remains strong.
