A scientist-turned-brickmaker has created a way to solve two Western Slope problems while potentially building a business through the of Western Colorado University’s ICELab.

Former assistant professor Chris Caskey of the Colorado School of Mines is taking silt dredged from the bottom of the Paonia Reservoir and forming bricks fired with methane gas captured from nearby North Fork coal mines.
