About Us

Gunnison Country Publications is first and foremost a newspaper publishing house. Our flagship product is the Gunnison Country Times. It serves as the newspaper of record for both the city and county of Gunnison, Colorado.

GCP publications cover the broad interests of Gunnison County residents and visitors alike. Our core coverage area is Gunnison, which is centrally located as the County Seat and the home of Western State College. The Towns of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte, home to Crested Butte Mountain Resort, are located approximately 30 miles north. We print 4,000 copies each Thursday (varies by 100-200 based on season), and offer a complete online subscription of the Gunnison Country Times, which includes our special publications.

Our focus is community. To help in that focus and as an addition to our news operation we publish several special publications including the "Gunnison Country Magazine," "Homes Inside & Out," "Western Welcome," "Cattlemen's Guide," and an annual "Hunting Guide" (view these publications). We also maintain MyGunnisonValley.com - the valley's only local Web site that gives direct publishing access to the people. From local government and politics to arts, entertainment, sports, real estate, people and opinions - we have a publication that gets the job done. Lastly, we're locally owned and independently operated.

The Gunnison Country Times is committed to community journalism. That means, basically, that we are committed to the long term and overall health of the Gunnison Valley. We strive for accuracy, objectivity and balance in our news reporting. We also believe in having a strong editorial voice. Yet, there must always be a clear delineation between news and opinion. We actively encourage and seek out others to use our mediums to express their views, tell their stories, relay their concerns, share their good news, etc. Our products are not only totally centered on our communities, they really belong to our communities. We believe in the highest ethical standards of journalism. We believe in transparency and honesty.

The Gunnison Country Times has consistently performed well at the annual Colorado Press Association's convention, receiving awards in editorial, design, and for the last four years the top award in advertising and the General Excellence award in two of the last three years. In addition to being recognized by the Colorado Press Association the Gunnison Country Times was honored in 2007 with the Philanthropy in the Arts award presented by the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts. Every award we win is a representation of our commitment to excellence for Gunnison County.
